ABOUT STEPHEN

Stephen Bowden practices in the areas of personal injury, workers’ compensation, construction defect, and criminal defense. Stephen was born and raised in coastal Virginia. He graduated from Old Dominion University with a degree in History and Political Science. He then went on to earn a law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law. While in law school, Stephen focused on developing practical skills as a member of the Moot Court Bar. Stephen was named to the Order of the Barristers and won a national moot court competition in Washington, D.C.

After completing law school, Stephen moved to Charleston to begin his legal career at a firm that represented homeowners and HOAs who were harmed by negligent developers and builders. His clients had devastating damage from poor construction practices. Stephen fought the insurance companies through complex litigation to help his clients get every dime they deserved to repair their homes.

Stephen joined the Charleston County Public Defender’s Office in 2017. There he spent countless hours in front of judges and juries protecting his client’s constitutional rights. In addition to real experience in the courtroom, Stephen was trained by some of the best trial attorneys in the country at the National Criminal Defense College’s Trial Practice Institute. Stephen has provided client-centered representation to hundreds of people in Charleston and is ready to use that experience to get you the best outcome possible in your case.

When Stephen isn’t fighting for his clients in the courtroom, he is fighting for his constituents as an elected member of the Charleston City Council. Stephen is honored to represent Outer West Ashley and help write the next chapter of Charleston’s incredible story.
